Goatrace Privacy Policy

At Goatrace we don't just pay lip service to taking privacy and security seriously: they are part of our core business and our reputation depends on them.

This policy may be updated from time to time, but any information collected from clients and web site users will never be treated with fewer controls on privacy and security than were stated in the policy in force and published here at time of collection. The current policy is effective from July 18th a 2012.

Information we collect

When browsing our site, our web server software logs standard information passed to it by your web browser or web proxy server including:
  • The IP address we see as the source of your query
  • The type of software your browser identifies itself as (e.g., firefox, Internet Explorer etc.)
  • The type of operating system your browser tells us is running on your computer (e.g. Windows, MacOS, Linux etc.)
We use Google Analytics which collects similar information. Privacy details are given here.

Except indirectly via Google Analytics, this site does not use cookies as explained in our cookie policy.

If you contact us via our contact page we have access to whatever you choose to provide us with in addition to the information outlined above. If you contact us via email we naturally record the contents of your message, any additional information your email software adds to that message, and the information logged by our mail server when receiving it such as the address of the computer which delivers the mail to us.

Unless you provide us with contact or other details via our contact form or email we do not collect any information to personally identify users.

How we use the information we collect

Analytics data are used to help us tailor our web site, products and services to the needs of our clients. Web and email log data are used for the same purposes and also to help identify and respond to security threats to our services.

Information you choose to provide us with via email or our contact page will be used to service your query. Your email details will not be added to a marketing mailing list or disclosed to any 3rd parties except where we are required to by law (e.g. to law enforcement agencies). If in the future we implement a service to provide information on products or services and/or industry intelligence we may send business contacts a single email offering the chance to opt in to such a service. If the recipient does not opt in, no further unsolicited bulk communications will be sent. We may communicate with business contacts individually to notify them of information we feel is of direct relevance to a query they have made or previous work we have performed for them via any appropriate medium. Such contact will be on an individual basis rather than bulk communication. Anyone who provides us with their contact details may at any time request that we do not contact them by a particular or all communications media and that request will be honoured.

No information regarding our clients or those seeking to contact us will be publicly disclosed on our web site or elsewhere. If we wish to use work we have performed for a client as a reference implementation to another potential client we will not release any contact details without gaining the explicit approval of the owner of those details.

Information storage and retention

Information including email communications is stored securely. We are a small security focused company and firmly believe that our security measures are more effective than those of the majority of major financial institutions.

Where off-site system backups are held by 3rd parties, data are encrypted using strong encryption techniques.

Email, records of other communication media and server logs may be retained indefinitely. Information in our customer database will be held indefinitely but the owner of that information may request its removal at any time.

You may request details of information we may hold on you in our customer database under the Data Protection Act 1998. We may levy a small fee for provision of such information but in many cases this may be waived. If you believe the information we hold regarding you is incorrect please notify us as soon as possible and we will endeavour to correct the inaccuracy as quickly as practical. Full contact details may be found on our contact page.
